summer break & Dunhill winter/fall collection

firstly, i wanted to apologise for my recent lack of posts. i've been having a late summer break and trying to attempt to make the most of what summer weather we have left.

whilst on my computer at work, i was left in awe as i saw Dunhill's winter/fall collection by 'Kim Jones'. with Dunhill we're all used to a strong sportswear theme, however, now we're met with a more classic, 50's inspired collection. some strong usages of paneling and color blocking offer a slightly edgier product. all products are now available at http://www.openingceremony.us/

sorry for my lack of posts over the weekend, i've been in manchester staying at some friends house, which was rad. i got my hands on the latest version of 'Cubase' which was really great, more about that later. 'Jil Sander' has finally returned! thanks to Uniqlo. Uniqlo is still ny favorite high street retalier. the japanese retail powerhouse continues to deliver on style, quality and of course price. tempting Jil Sander out of retirement to make her fashion comeback with a collaboration with the chain is almost typical for Uniqlo. he more I thought about this collaboration, the more it made sense; the Uniqlo style aesthetic is not a million miles away from the mistress of minimalism but the retail giant will no doubt turn Sander's minimalism in to one for the masses. of course, news of this collaboration broke months ago now and i've been excitedly tapping on my keyboard waiting to catch a glimpse of the first few designs. thanks to the always quick off the mark chaps at hypebeast, the wait is over!

just a quick one today! menswear stylist 'Simon Foxton' has put on a photography collection called 'When You're A Boy'. Simon Foxton is such a hotly tipped stylist and has worked with many of the famous fashion houses. 'When You're A Boy' is based on the three decades of dressing up, it'll definately be really interesting. 'When You're A Boy' runs from 17th July to 4th october at the photographers gallery. the admisson is free!

today i also came across this band - 'The Presets'. the video for the dreamy “If I Know You”, the fifth and final single from their second album, 'Apocalypso,' was shot in LA by 'Eva Husson'. it’s a little bit like fame, and a lot like something that might make you want to do star-jumps off the photocopier. crash-mats at the ready!

something i've really got into recently is architecture and design. a tricky subject is religious architecture - i've visited many, many beautiful churches, basillica's and various other religious buildings, however, from being in church on sunday i really got thinking about the architecture of modern churches and how generally awful it really is.

whilst browsing a brilliant design blog i came across these amazing photo's. it's definately the best use of the panton chair i have ever seen. i just think the church looks so serene.

evening! today has been a really interesting and some what revealing day. i had my tarrot read today, i'm not really a supersticious person, however, i'm really into horoscopes and that sort of thing. having my tarrot read was a really interesting experience and definately a recommendation to those who feel like they are searching for something.

whilst browsing LB (www.lookbook.nu) today i picked up a really cool street style site. street style aesthetic is similiar to the satorialist, it also features a street style shot of the satorialist himself. one of my favorite images i saw was of esquire's Jeremy Langmead. others may disagree but i think Langmead's a really great journalist and has most definately turned esquire around. Jeremy is sporting a rad double breasted blazer by Saville Row tailor Thom Sweeny who also runs 'My Beautiful Tailor' with DJ & Presenter, George Lamb.

lots of news on the shop front recently but i thought this one was definately worth a mention. a really rad store called 'A Bathing Ape' has just re-opened its london store. while the adress (Upper James Street) hasn't changed the architecture has, thanks to a major refurbishment by Masamichi Katayama of design firm 'Wonderwall'

i walked my dogs (poppy and vince) today which i enjoyed alot, nice to have a break from blogging and thinking about work. i realised the countryside sometimes is a nice play just to have a think.

recently i've found some really interesting bands, and today i found another really cool artist i've found is 'Miike Snow' their debut album is released in october. it's set to be anything but - an instantly accessible showcase of thoughtful pop that will have music journos frantically looking up words like ‘ethereal’ and lyrical’ in their thesauruses. the singles 'Animal' & 'Burial' are both great.

returning from my travels i've decided i'm going to spend a few days in london with my friend, dj & producer jack lyons.

i've been without any internet connection for two weeks so i've just been catching up with blogs, emails and checking out some gig dates. whilst browsing i've found some really cool stuff one of them is the new pop-up shop by 'Universal Works' called 'Cube'. the owner/designer david keyte used to work for paul smith and maharishi - example prices are £35 for t-shirts and up to £195 for jackets. the catch is it's only open for a month!

i really used to love blogging, documenting my life and the things i find whilst browsing the net. i really don't know whats happened, i haven't posted anything on here for over six months.

anyway, i'm definately going to be posting alot more on here over the next few months. i've just come back from travelling, and i've got loads of rad stuff to share with this screen so i'll write some more tomorow or even later!

i've been so tied down with coursework etc.

my what once was occasional listen to a joy division track has now morphed into an obession a joy division disorder one may call it?

i'm all pretty much free now so my social life, gig going, fashion writing and blogging may once again continue. lucky you.

majestic dragon and jordan fish

jordan fish is a very much under-rated and unknown graphic designer and musician who i think is rad. he did alot of the design and animation for MGMT and lot's of other great bits n' bobs which you can find on the web in various places.
i tried to post the videos he did for mgmt but they were disabled on youtube and don't get played on music channels which is a great shame.
out of all of the stuff i've seen of his, 'the majestic dragon' series is by far my favorite and he's incredibly talented, he also does some rad light shows for daedelus and other's.

banksy's secret museum?

from the underground world of graffiti, banksy has opened a gallery of it's own sort in new york disguised as a pet store.

this museum and the work inside it is all pretty different to banksy's earlier pieces, anyone who hadn't heard of the museum would struggle to believe it is banksy, i mean no graffiti style painting's and no signiature rats?

after seeing banksy's current pieces everyone will notice there is a definate change in style, however it is so different to his stencil's it makes me wonder wether it really is banksy that's responsible for all of this.

paul smith

i first came across designer; paul smith whilst reading "modern menswear"
i then checked out his website and his latest collection on the london line caught my eye and it's really interesting and so very british. he got no gcse's or qualification's whatsoever and firstly wanted to be a cyclist, however whilst in training he suffered from a major accident.
after his return from hospital paul met up with some friends he met and by chance the meeting place was a local pub that was popular with students from the local art college. they talked of warhol and mondrain and listened to lou reed and the rolling stones. It was then paul knew he wanted to be a part of this colourful world of idea's and excitement.
two years later he opened his first boutique and then was trained in the art of tailoring and started creating collections. to find out more about paul smith you should all do some research and definately check out his site: http://www.paulsmith.co.uk/

when i'm next in london i think i'm going to head to covent garden and have a look round some of his store's - not just his clothing range though, he also owns store's in covent garden ranging from his own furniture to cosmetics, shoe's, jeans and some other's.

john lennon

most people at some point in their life have some sort of beatles obsession or at that an obession for one of the beatles.

for a little while i was obsessed with controversy and people's view's on john lennon, i used to spend hours browsing youtube for old john lennon interviews and footage.

this is one of my favorite video's i've found and the animation that go's with it is pretty awesome too.

the story behind the video go's a little like this:

"In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon's hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon's every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation.
